“Another Claim” by Steve Klepetar

Another Claim

Who stands to my right?
The hanging bough
forbids another claim –

only cobwebs and tired
leaves growing
old on these blushing

trees with their voices
lost in fog,
a conspiracy of angry birds.

I would dip my bucket
into the well
of you

if only
there was anything
left to drown.
