“Another Claim” by Steve Klepetar

Another Claim

Who stands to my right?
The hanging bough
forbids another claim –

only cobwebs and tired
leaves growing
old on these blushing

trees with their voices
lost in fog,
a conspiracy of angry birds.

I would dip my bucket
into the well
of you

if only
there was anything
left to drown.

Steve Klepetar teaches literature and creative writing at Saint Cloud State University in Minnesota.  His work has received several nominations for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.  Flutter Press has recently published two chapbooks, My Father Teaches Me a Magic Word and My Father Had Another Eye.
